I had a pretty shittastic day, so I'm kinda pissed, so I'm gonna vent here by talking about somethin that pisses me off.
Music.
Music is a great thing, it can be beautiful, and it can be ugly. It gets millions of people through the day and acts for a pick-me-up and as inspiration for millions more. Music is one of the most important things in my life, I take it more seriously than is probably healthy for me. It's why I am no fan, what-so-ever, of Weird Al Yankovic. He takes a song, and he mocks it. I can't stand it when people mock music, unless its a song that I despise. For example, Al's parody of Riding Dirty, I love. Because I hate Chamillionaire and I hate that song. Therefor, when he mocked it, I loved it. The song wasn't of quality to me, it was about how the police were riding up on his ass about some drug bullshit. I don't give a damn about that. However, his parody of Gangster's Paradise; I despise his parody. The original was a very very very serious song about living in a shit part of town where all the drug trafficing happens, shootings, etc; living in a Gangster's Paradise. It's a song that I respect immensely. That's why I can't stand to see it parodied, it feels to me like taking a giant shit on the original when you take something serious and turn it into something humorous. Neither does it help that his voice annoys the shit out of me.
Another thing that pisses me off involving music, is the fact that people put the songwriter or the meaning of the song above the sound itself, above the music, above the majority of the writing done for the song. Sure, Demon Hunter might be a Christian Metal Band, but who gives a shit? The songs can be interpreted as something that's not religious. Unless the songwriter comes out and says specifically that This Song has This Meaning; the meaning is entirely up to You. You can chose whether to see it as a religious song, or you can chose to see it as an unreligious song. Don't attack the songwriter because you interpreted the song as something you don't like. Blame yourself.
Same thing with Flyleaf; Sure, Lacey Mosley might be a born-again christian, and hell, that might even influence the lyrics she writes for the songs, but that doesn't mean that you Have to interpret the song as a religious song. All of the Flyleaf songs I've heard(only a few, sadly) weren't solidly about Jesus or God or Christianity in general, they just felt like a normal song. Sure, I've met some people that don't like Flyleaf because of Mosley's voice, and that's perfectly understandable. The sound comes first; you could put all your heart, blood, sweat, and tears into making a song with this beautiful set of lyrics, excellent flowing words that pour themselves out of the speaker and into the soul of every listener, but if the music sounds like shit, nobody's going to want to listen to it, because they can't stand the sound of it.
And, I am immensely sorry for bringing him up, but I have wanted to say this for Months. The fact that Michael Jackson might have molested multiple children does NOT change his music. Thousands upon thousands of people stopped listening to Michael Jackson because of the trials. That's BULLSHIT. The life of an artist should never be associated with the music of an artist, unless the artist incorporates it into it. The fact that he might have molested children doesn't mean that Thriller is all of a sudden an evil evil song about child molestation. and for Fuck's Sake people; stop changing the fucking channel or radio station when a Michael Jackson song comes on because you think they're honoring the person, and not the music. THEY'RE A FUCKING MUSIC STATION, FOR GOD'S SAKE. MUSIC. SONGS. The MUSIC station is obviously honouring the MUSIC. That's why its a MUSIC station. There's been multiple times when I was watching VH1 or Fuse or listening to the radio and a Michael Jackson song comes up, and someone changes the fucking channel, especially when I wanted to listen to the damn song, because his MUSIC was great in my mind. For fuck's sake, people, the fact that he might have molested children doesn't really matter anymore. If he did, he died, he got what i deserved, let's move on. If he didn't, oh well, he died. That sucks, let's move on. I am quite able to, and so the rest of the goddamn world should be, too. Take the Time magazine off the shelves, he's dead. He had good music, but he hadn't released anything since 2001. Nothing new since then.
